Friday, July 28. Rome.

We flew out of Athens early heading to Rome for four days.

Because Brianne has the airlines believing we are high class, through her credit card schemes, we have obtained passes to a few private business lounges at the airport. While we waited for our flight to board we tried two of them.

Below: The GoldAir Handling lounge was very nice. Espresso machines, full self service liquor bar, unlimited fruit, bottled water, beer, wine, Greek yogurt with toppings, pastries and a smoking room! Plus a business center with computers. No masseuse…ugh!

Above:  I think that’s a make your own teabag station but the guy next to me was smoking it.

Look who’s in my coffee cup.

Below:  The Star Alliance Gold Lounge. Much more crowded, with those pesky tourists. Same compliments as the GoldAir lounge plus a latte/cappuccino machine and a few more pastries.

Wow, three double espressos later and a half dozen pastries we boarded the plane.  I don’t know what Brianne had for breakfast.

We talked to a couple from Florida who, for fun, ran the original ancient marathon route the day before. We were thinking about doing that but found a few street gyros and gelato stands instead.

Brianne booked us on the Rome Food Walking Tour last night. It was fun. Our tour guide was Valeria, she had a Phd in  Archeology, specializing in coins. She loved food and give us so much cool info our heads burst.

She took us to five different places, a butcher/deli started 98 years ago, Ruggeri’s. A bakery, Marco Roscioli’s, a pizza place in the Jewish Quarter/Ghetto, a restaurant across the river and a gelato place. Just six of us in the group. Great fun.

When we arrived back at our hotel after our food tour, the bar next door was having tango lessons or a demonstration.
